2010 Silver Beaver Receipients
Mark A. Bonson
A lifelong resident of Mifflin County and active member of our community, Mark Bonson is rarely seen in the forefront of the numerous community and Scouting events that take place, but his influence and energy are the foundation of their success. Mark has been involved in Scouting since he was a youth.
An Eagle Scout, Mark has served as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, District Committee Member, District Chairman, Executive Board member, Council Camping Committee member, and is co-founder and President of the Seven Mountains Scout Camp Alumni Association. In addition ,Mr. Bonson has served on staff of the Klondike Derby, training team, District Camporee, Council Camporee, National Jamboree Staff, and is an active member of the Order of the Arrow Lodge.
In addition to Scouting Mark is an active member of 4-H having served as a leader in the Beef and Swine Club, Past President of Mifflin County 4-H, volunteers as head coach of the Lewistown Swim Team, a YMCA Swimming Official, and is an active member of his church.
Professionally, Mark is Parts Manager with Hoober, Inc. He and his wife Ann are the parents of Sara, Zack, and Hanna and reside I n Lewistown.
For outstanding service to the community and youth, the Juniata Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America is proud to present the Silver Beaver Award to Mark Bonson.
John M. Kriner II
A warm, genuine smile, with a Scouting handshake is the greeting you will receive from John M. Kriner II. Those who meet young John, as he is known, will quickly learn of his love for Scouting and Seven Mountains Scout Camp.
An Eagle Scout, John has been registered with the Juniata Valley Council Boy Scouts of America for more than forty years.
Mr. Kriner serves on Penn State University’s chapter of Alpha Phi Omega’s Troop 339 Committee, a Unit Commissioner in Nittany Mountain District, and has assisted in numerous council and district events including presentations at Eagle Scout ceremonies with his father. Annually, John volunteers to serve as a “Visiting Commissioner” at Seven Mountains Scout Camp. He is the recipient of the Nittany Mountain District “District Award of Merit” and has received the Distinguished Commissioner Award. Mr. Kriner is a member of the Juniata Valley Council Heritage Society, a James E. West Fellow, and member of the Order of the Arrow.
Mr. Kriner is an active member of his church and has been a participant and volunteer with the Pennsylvania Special Olympics for more than thirty years.
He has worked in the State College Area School district as a custodian.
John is the son of Betta and John Kriner and resides in State College.

Richard C. Marboe
Dedication, committed, and forward thinking are three words to describe Rick Marboe as a father, husband, community leader and Scout volunteer. Rick has been associated with Scouting and the Juniata Valley Council since his youth and has remained associated in one form or another since.
Rick has held a variety of adult leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America including Tiger Cub Leader, Den Leader, Webelos Leader, Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, trainer, Camping Committee member and recently completed his fifth year as Scoutmaster in Troop 31 where he mentored thirty-three young men to attain Eagle Scout – including his son Paul. He has served on the Nittany Mountain District and recently joined the Council Executive Board. He has also served on the staff of Woodbadge, the National Jamboree Staff and in May 2010 was selected as the Area 4 Scoutmaster Representative at the National BSA Meeting.
Mr. Marboe has served on the College Township and Centre Region Parks and Recreation Board, Millbrook Marsh Advisory Board and is an active member of his church.
He is Associate Director of the Applied Research Lab and Head of Research Operations at the Pennsylvania State University.
Rick and his wife Rose are the parents of Teresa and Paul and reside in State College.
