2012 Silver Beaver Award Recipients

Gary W. Langsdale

An outgoing, positive attitude, guided by his faith and values instilled through the Scouting program are attributes which describe this dedicated volunteer and Eagle Scout who makes a difference daily in the lives of thousands of people in our communities.

Gary W. Langsdale serves on the Juniata Valley Council Executive Board and is currently the Council Risk Management Chair.  He also serves on the Council Nominating Committee – including service as Co-Chair and on the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award Committee.  Gary has been active in Scouting for a number of years having served as an Assistant Cubmaster and Troop Committee Member in Seattle WA and Memphis TN. 

Aside from Scouting, Mr. Langsdale has been an active Board Member and served as Vice Chair and Chair of the American Red Cross Chapters in Memphis and State College and active with United Way.  A member of Alpha Phi Omega, Gary serves as an Advisor with the Penn State Chapter.  He has been an active member of his church, including service as a Eucharistic Minister.  

Gary is the Risk Officer for the Pennsylvania State University and has served as President of Risk and Insurance Management Society, is a Board member and president elect for University Risk Management and Insurance Association, has served on the Board of Directors for United Educators and listed on the Business Insurance Magazine Risk Management Honor Roll.

Gary and his wife Lianne reside in Spring Mills.

For outstanding service to the community and youth, the Juniata Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America is proud to present the Silver Beaver Award to Gary W. Langsdale.

 

Robert L. Snyder, Sr.

Retirement led to a full time volunteer position, yet after spending nearly eight hours a day helping at Seven Mountains Scout Camp, Bob puts in overtime serving Scouting at the unit and district level.

Bob Snyder joined Scouting in 1955 and currently serves as Camping Co-Chair on the Shawnee District Committee, Roundtable Commissioner, Webelos Den Leader, and as Scoutmaster for Troop 2 in Lewistown.    He has also served with Cub Scout Packs 7, 15, 115 and Boy Scout Troops 15 and 19.  

A Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, Bob is also Woodbadge trained (1985) and this past summer completed the first portion new Woodbadge course.

Since 2010, Mr. Snyder has volunteered full time at Seven Mountains Scout Camp assisting in numerous improvement and basic maintenance projects at camp.  He also volunteers his time during non-summer camp months to operate the shooting sports area for Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops at camp and is a volunteer cook for camp rental groups.  In the summer of 2012, Bob volunteered to provide weekly lawn care for the Council Service Center.

A member of the Yeagertown Lutheran Church, Mr. Snyder has been active with the Masons, Moose, and coached Babe Ruth Baseball.

Bob and his wife Charlotte live in Lewistown.
