"Fire Light Pavilion"
To Pay Tribute to Fred McChesney

Announcement         About Fred McChesney         Timeline         Project Photos

June 26, 2009 -- Family and friends of the late Louis "Fred" McChesney have committed to provide funding for the "Fire Light Pavilion at Seven Mountains Scout Camp, Scout Executive Jim Kennedy has announced today.

Fire Light Pavilion will be located at the current site of the Cub Scout Pavilion across from the Don Bailey Campfire Circle and is expected to be completed in the fall 2009.

Fred McChesney was involved as a leader with Cub Scout Pack 31, Chartered to the Mens Brotherhood Class at St Paul's United Methodist Church in State College

Plans call for the existing pavilion to be relocated to above Rover Lodge and used for boat and wood storage.  A new 75' x 30' pavilion with electric and running water will be built.  The capacity is expected to be about 100 persons and it will have a cement floor.  In addition to expanded seating, a cooking area will be built for users to hold cookouts, Pack, / Troop picnics, meetings, receptions, and more.  Future plans call for flush restroom facilities to be built in the area.

According to Jim Kennedy,Vice President of Finance Kathy Bobeck and Facilities Manager Charlie Harklerode -- Donna McChesney (mother of Fred) and other members of the family wanted to provide a tribute to Fred that tied into the Campfire area.  The new pavilion and area enhancement will certainly provide an excellent resource for units to hold outings and be near to the campfire area for ceremonies as well as other groups using a modern facility that is set away from central camp with beautiful surroundings .

We believe this gift will a fitting tribute to Freds memory and legacy for those he knew as well as our Scouting and non-Scouting customers who will really benefit from the generiousity of the McChesneys and others.

As more details and timelines are established, we will post them here.

Thank You to Mrs. Donna McChesney, Cindy Zimmerman, family and Friends!
