The Juniata Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America announces Dan and Kay Barker have been selected to receive the 2018 Joseph and Suzanne Paterno Community Impact Award at a dinner May 1, 2018 at the Ramada Inn & Conference Center in State College.  Presenting Sponsors for the event are Dan and Susie Hawbaker & Tom and Sara Songer.

Awarded by the Juniata Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America, the Joseph and Suzanne Paterno Community Impact Award recognizes accomplishments, contributions, or community/civic activities exemplifying the values of the Boy Scouts of America and reflect the commitment to community and service to others demonstrated by Joseph and Suzanne Paterno.

The Barker’s are passionate about Centre County - making it an ideal place to live and raise families and gratefully direct their resources to many local educational organizations.  They have been actively involved in supporting numerous community organizations including Alpha Fire Company, Boalsburg Memorial Day, the building committee for the Schlow Library, Easter Seals of Centre/Clinton County, National Day of Prayer, and State College Business and Professional Women’s After 5 Club.  They were instrumental in creating a number of popular local events most notably The Great American 4th of July Fireworks, which is today known as Central PA 4th Fest.

Dan and Kay are owners of FireOne, the industry’s leading digital pyrotechnics firing system, which provides hardware and software for major fireworks displays around the world and at major celebrations on every continent.

The Barkers are members of the State College Alliance Church, have raised two children—Darin and Dannah, and enjoy five thriving grandchildren, all of whom reside in Centre County.

Tickets are $125 per person and sponsorship opportunities are available through the Juniata Valley Council Service Center at 717-667-9236.  Proceeds from the dinner will provide programming and support to more than 1,600 young people served by the Juniata Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America.
