The training pages on this website are designed to help all levels of leaders from the first year Den Leader to the most experienced Scoutmaster. The leadership training philosophy of the Boy Scouts of America is to provide adult leaders with fundamental information about the aims and purposes of the movement, as well as specifics about their particular roles in Scouting.

Cubmaster & Assistant Specific Training
June 19, 2019 at Cub Scout Day Camp
This training provides Cubmasters and Assistant Cubmasters with the basic information and tools they need to lead successful Cub Scout Packs. Cubmasters and Assistant Cubmasters who complete this course and Youth Protection Training are considered "trained" for those positions.
Cost is $5.00. Checks made payable to JVC BSA. Registration is at 8 a.m. Course concludes at 12 p.m. All materials are provided. Please notify the Juniata Valley Council Office of any allergies or special dietary needs.

July 10, 2019 (Option 1) OR July 17, 2019 (Option 2) at Scouts BSA Resident Camp
The course provides Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters with the basic information and tools they need to lead successful Boy Scout Troops. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters who complete this course, Introduction to Leader Skills, and Youth Protection Training are considered "trained" for those positions.
Registration is at 8 a.m. Course concludes at 12 p.m. All materials are provided. Please notify the Juniata Valley Council Office of any allergies or special dietary needs.

October 11, 2019 at Greenwood Furnace State Park
The course provides Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters with the basic information and tools they need to lead successful Scouts BSA Troops. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters who complete this course, Introduction to Leader Skills, and Youth Protection Training are considered "trained" for those positions.
Cost $5.00. Checks made payable to JVC BSA. Registration is at 6 p.m. Course concludes at 10 p.m. All materials are provided. Please notify the Juniata Valley Council Office of any allergies or special dietary needs.
TRAINING REGISTRATION FORMS
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) Training
October 12-13, 2019 at Greenwood Furnace State Park
Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops in order to be considered "trained."
What to Bring:
1. Tents are required for the overnight stay. (Please bring any personal gear you will need for overnight stay)
2. Class A uniforms for opening and closing ceremonies. Class B worn for other sessions.
3. A “Silva” type compass, if you have one, for the map and compass session.
4. Mess kit for meals.
Cost is $25.00, if registered by October 1, 2019. Cost is $30.00, if registered after October 1, 2019. Includes meals and materials. Checks made payable to JVC BSA. Registration is from 8:00-8:30 a.m. Saturday. The course concludes at 11 a.m. Sunday. Please notify the Juniata Valley Council Office in advance of any allergies or special dietary needs.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Training
October 12-13, 2019 at Greenwood Furnace State Park
This course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for those leaders who are interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO is an instructor-led course which is conducted at the Council level. BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for at least one adult on a Pack overnighter.
What to Bring:
1. Proof that you have completed the required online prerequisite portion of BALOO.

Trainer's EDGE
March 28, 2020 at Seven Mountains Scout Camp
The Trainer's EDGE course is one session in the three-part train the trainer continumm (T3) in Scouting and is intended for both youth and adult trainers. The purpose of Trainer's EDGE course is to provide and help develop platform skills of a trainer and to supplement the practice offered through Wood Badge and NYLT staff development.
Cost is $5.00. Checks made payable to JVC BSA. Registration 12:30-1:00 p.m. Course 1:00-5:00 p.m. Participants are asked to please bring a bag lunch.
