Nominated Awards

National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) Scoutmaster Award of Merit  -- is present  to select Scoutmasters nominated and approved who:

• Are currently registered as a Scoutmaster, serving n that position for at least 18 months.
• Have achieved the Quality Unit Award at least once during the period of service.
• Have completed Boy Scout Leader Fast Start Orientation, New Leader Essentials, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.
• Have a record of proper use of the Boy Scout advancement program, resulting in a majority of Boy Scouts in the troop attaining the First Class rank.

And have a record of developing youth leadership through the patrol method, have positive relations with the troop's chartered organization, an extensive outdoor program including strong summer camp attendance, a positive image of Scouting in the community, and a troop operation that attracts and retains Boy Scouts.

The Venturing Leadership Award is presented by councils, areas, regions, and the BSA National Council to Venturers and adults who have made exceptional contributions to Venturing and who exemplify the Venturing Code.

Because there is a restriction on the number of Venturing Leadership Awards that may be presented in a given year, a committee will be appointed to review and select the recipients.  The Juniata Valley Council will accept nominations until October 31 of each year and the awards will be presented at the Council Recognition Dinner.

The District Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils.

The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district level.  It is not appropriate to nominate a Scouter who has already received this award.  A professional Scouter or other council employee may not receive this award based on employment service. However, a professional Scouter or employee who also serves as a volunteer Scouter may be eligible, based on volunteer service.

The Silver Beaver Award is made for noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth by registered Cub Scouters, Scouters, Varsity Scouters, and Venturing leaders within the territory under the jurisdiction of the Juniata Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America.  

The nomination form must be received by the Council Service Center by the close of business on August 31 (or the first business day following, if the deadline falls on a weekend.  All nominations are held for a total of three (3) reviews.

The Silver Antelope Award, created in 1942, is granted for outstanding service to youth within the territory of a BSA region. The criteria are similar to those for the Silver Buffalo, with one major difference: A recipient must be a registered adult member of the Boy Scouts of America. The awards are presented in connection with regional meetings or at other public functions within the region. The National Court of Honor bestows Silver Antelope Awards on the basis of the number of registered volunteers in a region.

The Silver Buffalo Award, created in 1925, is bestowed upon those who give truly noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award, Scouting's highest commendation, recognizes the invaluable contributions that outstanding American men and women render to youth. The service must be national in character and can be directly connected with the BSA or independent of the movement.

The Young American Award was first presented in 1968, the award is given to college students student age 19 through 25 to highlight publicly the importance of their excellent achievements and service to their community, state and nation

Created in 1969, the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award is the only distinguished service recognition that depends on one's association with Scouting as a youth. The recipient must have attained the Eagle Scout rank a minimum of 25 years before his nomination, and over those years he must have rendered outstanding service to others.

Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award, presentation plaque, lapel pin, and knot, volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution through Scouting to low-income urban/rural youth. Award also granted to organizations, but the lapel pin is worn only by those who have received the award in their own name, not as a member of a group, organization, or corporation. Civilian wear.
